Islam Week 7.11.11-11.11.11

After the success of last year’s Hannukah and Diwali Day we decided this year to focus on the religion of Islam. This week the whole school have been learning all about this religion and what it means to be a Muslim. The whole school also looked at the recent festival of Eid-Al-Adha and on Monday KS2 are going on a trip to the Mosque in Exeter.

In Class A the children really enjoyed listening to Yasmine telling everyone about praying and they also made their own prayer mats using felt.

In Class C the children talked about what they would like to find out about Islam and then did some research. They had a wonderful time making their own prayer mats and also practiced doing some Arabic writing of the 99 names of Allah.

In Class D the children used their maths lessons to learn about symmetrical patterns in Islamic patterns and produced their own octagonal patterns. They also did some Arabic writing and designeds some Mendhi hand patterns.

In Class E the children produced some information leaflets about Islam in their literacy lesson. They also designed and made their own prayer mats, Mendhi hand patterns and also reproduced a Turkish tile depicting the journey of Hajj. With Mrs. Knight they made some Halawat Al-Jazer, which is a sweet carrott dish eaten at festivals such as Eid-Al-Adha.
